WILDING · A WORK-IN-NATURE RETREAT
This isn't a retreat. It's a different place to think.
An off-grid stay off the Avenue of the Giants, for solo travelers, creators, and remote workers who want somewhere the noise actually stops. Hosted by Sara Jean, a Reiki practitioner and Ayurveda counselor who works from the property herself.
Custom stays available · Miranda, California · Booking September – December 2026
Maybe you don't need to stop working.
Maybe you just need somewhere different to do it.
When your days are filled with screens, conversations, decisions, and other people's needs, even meaningful work can begin to feel heavy. You may not be looking for a packed retreat schedule or a complete escape from your real life. You may simply need more sky, more quiet, and enough space to hear yourself think again.
At Soloist, your responsibilities can come with you. The noise does not have to.
Space to concentrate
Nature close enough to change your rhythm
Warmth and companionship when you want them

Welcome to Wilding
A softer place to work, wander, and return to yourself.
Wilding is a hosted retreat for people who need both connection and space — a place where focused work can share the day with birdsong, animal encounters, long walks, nourishing food, quiet reflection, and nights spent beneath a wider sky.
There is no pressure to perform relaxation correctly. Join what calls to you. Protect the quiet you need. Work when you need to work. Rest when your body asks you to rest.
What can change when your surroundings change?
From constant interruption
To long, protected stretches of focus
From crowded days
To quiet with room around it
From indoor routines
To workdays shaped by weather, light, and landscape
From caring for everyone else
To being warmly cared for
From digital sameness
To animals, stars, water, trails, and sensory life
From forcing an answer
To giving clarity room to arrive
You do not have to become a different person here. You simply get to meet yourself in a different setting.
Shape the stay you need
Enough structure to feel held. Enough freedom to make it yours.
Your retreat is designed around spaciousness rather than obligation. Keep your work commitments, choose the experiences that support you, and leave room for the unexpected moments that become the most memorable.

Property & Accommodations
Close to nature. Comfortably held.
Dark Fairy Farm offers the feeling of being immersed in the natural world without asking you to give up the comforts that help you feel safe, rested, and able to work.
Your Accommodation — A private studio apartment on 40 acres, complete with a shower, kitchenette, comfortable bed, dedicated workspace, and outdoor seating.
Work & Wi-Fi — High-speed internet provided by our local service, Netlink 101.
Kitchen & Meals — The kitchenette includes a sink, stovetop, grill, mini fridge, cookware, and dishes. Dry breakfast goods, tea, coffee, spices, and cooking oils are included with your stay.
Outdoor Spaces — Relax beneath the stars on the patio, enjoy a picnic with the provided blankets, explore the property’s hiking areas, or cool off in your private section of our creek pools.
Animals & Wildlife — Stanley, our dog, is your loyal companion and protector. You may also spot our stealthy outdoor cat, Yum Yum Hammer Paw.
*Wild turkeys, deer, and ravens are frequent visitors. You may hear owls, foxes, coyotes, or cows calling in the distance. Bobcats, mountain lions, and bears also live in the surrounding area, though sightings are rare. That’s why Stanley is here—to help keep the larger wildlife at a safe distance.
Coastal Redwood Trees — We live just off the Avenue of the Giants, so there’s no need to get back on the highway to experience one of the most memorable 30-mile drives of your life. Spend the day exploring our favorite old-growth groves, wandering beneath the towering redwoods, and feeling the quiet magic of these ancient giants.
Swimming & Nearby Exploration — The Eel River offers something to enjoy in every season, from fishing, kayaking, and hiking to swimming, sunbathing, or simply throwing rocks into the water. It is one of the area’s greatest natural treasures. Our property also has a private creek within the Salmon Creek watershed, including a unique creek pool perfect for cool freshwater dipping and peaceful nature bathing.
Night Skies — Cloudless nights here are truly breathtaking. Watching the moon rise behind our beloved Bear Butte can give you chills with the sheer power of the sky. Sunsets feel painted by God’s own hand, while foggy mornings gently carry the mind toward stillness and imagination.
Privacy & Shared Areas — You’ll have a fully private studio apartment with a balcony facing away from the host’s main house—close enough to feel cared for, yet private enough to enjoy your own space. You may also join your host for dinner, arrange a healing treatment in the dedicated healing space, or explore the property’s open areas.
Arrival & Parking — Our beautiful, remote location comes with rugged road conditions. An AWD or 4WD vehicle with off-road capability is strongly recommended. The driveway is short but very steep. Although many 2WD vehicles have successfully reached the property, we have reserved a parking space at the top of the driveway for 2WD guests. From there, it is approximately a 300-foot walk to the apartment. Better-equipped vehicles may park closer to the accommodation. Please understand that the road can be rough and challenging to navigate—it is simply part of the price we gladly pay to live this way.
Accessibility & Terrain — This rustic property is best suited to guests who are comfortable walking across steep, rugged, and uneven terrain. Sturdy walking or hiking shoes are essential. Unfortunately, the property is not wheelchair accessible and may not be suitable for anyone who requires mobility assistance. We want to be completely honest about the landscape so you can decide whether this stay is right for you.

Meet your host
You will be welcomed here like family.
I created this retreat because I know firsthand how beautiful it can be to work remotely from this property. Work feels different when there is nature outside the window, room to breathe between tasks, and a quieter rhythm waiting when the laptop closes.
As a cancer survivor, I have also experienced how deeply meaningful a gentler, nature-connected way of living can feel. Dark Fairy Farm became part of my own return to what matters, and I wanted to share that possibility with people who may be longing for the same kind of space.
When you stay here, you are not being processed through a retreat program. You are being welcomed into my home. My approach is warm, intuitive, and personal — the kind of care that feels a little like motherly love, while always respecting your privacy, independence, and boundaries.
I will share the week with you, offer practical and emotional support where I can, and help connect you with trusted practitioners if you would like to explore massage or other wellness experiences during your stay.
Come as you are. Bring the work, questions, tiredness, curiosity, and hope that are already yours.
